Seachem Stability
Seachem Stability – Quickly and safely establish biological balance in your aquarium
When starting a new aquarium, you naturally want to avoid fish losses right away. The main issue during this initial phase is a sudden spike in nitrite or ammonia. With Seachem Stability, you can help prevent this problem. This product supports the development of a powerful biological filter in both freshwater and marine aquariums.
Why does Stability work differently?
Many bacterial supplements are quite sensitive. If temperature, pH levels or the amount of organic waste in the water varies, some bacterial cultures may not function effectively. Stability is specially formulated to remain effective under a wide range of conditions:
- Smart bacterial blend: Contains a carefully selected combination of bacteria that help break down organic waste and support the conversion of ammonia and nitrite. According to Seachem, Stability also contains bacteria that may contribute to nitrate reduction under suitable conditions.
- High resilience: The bacteria function across a broad range of water parameters. Because multiple strains are included, the biological filter remains more stable when aquarium conditions change.
- No foul odors or gases: Stability does not contain sulfate-reducing bacteria, so it does not produce toxic hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell).
- Completely safe: Safe for use with fish, shrimp and sensitive plants. Even higher dosages are safe for aquarium inhabitants.
No refrigeration required thanks to dormant bacteria
The bacteria in Stability are in a dormant state, making the product long-lasting without refrigeration and more resistant to temperature fluctuations during transport and storage. Once added to the aquarium, the bacteria become active again. Within approximately 24 hours, they begin colonizing filter media, substrate and other surfaces, where they contribute to biological filtration. The unopened bottle remains stable for up to 6 years.
Dosage and use
When starting a new aquarium:
- Day 1: Add 5 ml per 40 liters of aquarium water.
- Day 2 to 7: Add 5 ml per 80 liters of aquarium water daily.
For maintenance and stable water conditions:
- Add 5 ml per 80 liters of water during monthly maintenance, after each water change, when adding new fish, or after completing a medication treatment.
- UV lamps and ozone filters: Turn these off completely during the 7-day start-up period. After water changes or when adding new fish, keep them off for at least 24 hours, as UV and ozone can kill beneficial bacteria before they establish.
- Fishless cycling: If starting without fish, add a controlled ammonia source, such as a small amount of fish food. Continue until the biological filter can process it within about 24 hours. A fishless cycle typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.
- Maximize filter performance: Bacteria need a surface to colonize. For best results, use Stability together with a porous biological filter medium (such as Seachem Matrix).
