Me Aquaristic Volcanic Mineral Black
Me Aquaristic Volcanic Mineral Black is made from natural black lava rock. This lava substrate forms an airy base layer that helps prevent substrate compaction.
The coarse, porous structure of the lava rock allows water to circulate freely through the lower part of the aquarium. This ensures an even supply of oxygen throughout the substrate. It helps prevent the substrate from becoming compacted and anaerobic (oxygen-free) zones from forming, where plant roots can die off. At the same time, the rock gradually releases natural traces of calcium, magnesium and potassium directly to the roots of your aquatic plants.
Additional surface for beneficial bacteria
The enormous internal surface area of the volcanic material acts like a sponge for beneficial filter bacteria. This helps accelerate the nitrogen cycle when cycling your aquarium.

Use and application
Rinse the material briefly with tap water before use to remove any dust from transport. Spread the desired layer over the dry bottom of the empty aquarium before adding the remaining substrate or hardscape.
You can use Volcanic Mineral Black on its own as a base layer or as an additional layer underneath aqua soil or gravel.
Our tip
Are you using fine aqua soil on top of the Volcanic Mineral Black? Separate the layers with a thin mesh (such as an inexpensive laundry bag or a piece of mesh). Otherwise, heavy rocks and burrowing animals may cause the coarse lava stones to gradually work their way above the fine soil. A separating mesh keeps the substrate neat and prevents the coarse grains from interfering with the view of your aquarium.
