Why is the pH value so important?

The pH value indicates how acidic or alkaline your water is. Each fish species has its own preference: many shrimp prefer slightly acidic water, while Malawi cichlids thrive better in a more alkaline environment. Sudden fluctuations in pH can cause significant stress to your inhabitants. By testing regularly, you stay in control and avoid unpleasant surprises.

Tips for adjusting your water parameters

• pH too low? A water change with fresh tap water is often the quickest solution. Also check your KH value immediately, as a KH that is too low can lead to dangerous pH fluctuations.
• pH too high? In a freshwater aquarium, you can safely lower the value with products such as pH-minus or by filtering over peat.
