How to Care for Aquarium Wood
New pieces of aquarium wood usually float at first because they contain air. It can take several days to weeks before the wood fully sinks. To speed up the process, soak the wood in water beforehand without boiling it, as boiling can damage the wood structure and cause rotting. Denser wood types such as driftwood, spiderwood, and mopani wood generally sink faster. Lighter wood types can temporarily be weighed down with a stone.
